The Western Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture announced its annual award winners and board of directors at its annual meeting in San Jose, CA, in May.
The chapter’s highest award, the Award of Merit, went to Andy Trotter, West Coast Arborists. Trotter was also honored with the Award of Acheivement, as was Teresa Trueman-Madriaga, who served as treasurer for the chapter.
The Award of Arboricultural Research went to Dr. David Rizzo, plant pathologist, University of California, Davis and Dr. Chris A. Martin, professor of horticulture, Arizona State University. The Award of Commendation honored Selestino Mercado, trainer and Doug Anderson, Anderson Tree Service.
Kevin Eckert, ArborGlobal, was awarded an Honorary Chapter Life Membership and the
R.W. Harris Award for Excellence in Education went to David Shaw, Cooperative Extension specialist, San Diego. Chapter Executive Director Rose Epperson and The Sohner/Phillips family were recognized with special awards.
ISA Gold Leaf Awards went to: City of Santa Rosa Parks; Tom Mehlan, City of Henderson, NV; Gerry Miller, Nevada Shade Tree Council; Arizona Community Tree Council; Mountain View Trees and Northeast Trees.
Doug Anderson took the helm as chapter president, with Ray Morneau serving as past president. Juan Barba is president-elect and Greg Monfette is the new vice president. Returning to the board are Gabe Beeler, Dennis Swartzell and Dana Karcher. Dr. Jim Downer was elected as the newest board member.
